A maximum of 11 000 fishing days are available from each country; that is 5 500 fishing days from boat, and 5 500 fishing days from shore. The licenses are further divided into 4 zones for boat fishing and 5 zones for fishing from shore (se map below):

Prices
Prices for licenses at the Norwegian side is the same as in 2017. That is;
- A license from Norwegian shore costs 500 NOK.
- A Norwegian boat licenses costs 800 NOK.
The licenses for children are free, but there is a special limitation of numbers of licenses for children:
- Children younger than 16 years old may have a free license.
- This license should be registered in the name of one of the parent (registeres with the fisherman ID to the parent), and it will be marked “only for children“.
- One license may apply for several children. If there are three children in a family, they only need one permit. Only one of the children may fish at the time.
- There total quota of license for children is 165 days for shore and 165 days for boat. When this number is registered all children must have a full price license in order angle at the border stretch of the Tana river.
- These licenses is only sold/registered at the local businesses that are selling fishing licenses in the Tana valley, not online.
Fishing rules
The fishing rules is for most parts the same as last year. There have been some adjustments in the protected zones in the river mouth (se below).
- Each boat may fish with three rods. Each rod may have one fly or lure.
- Tourist anglers may only fish with fly from shore. At following locations, they may also fish with lures at special marked areas:
- Storfossen
- Ailestrykene
- Anárjohka above Matinköngas
- It is not legal to use shrimps, fish or worms as bait.
- Following areas are also protected:
- Closer than 50 m below a weir (local fishing equipment)
- 10 m beside the weir (boat fishing)
- 10 m below a gillnet
- From a bridge
- There are larger protected areas close to salmon bearing tributaries; 200 m below and 50 above the tributary at both side of river Tana. No fishing is allowed either from boat fishing or from shore in these areas. You may fish from shore at the opposite side of the Tana river as the tributary. In three river mout areas the protected areas below are 300 m: Akujohka, Leavvajohka and Lákšjohka.
- You may row fast through a protected area with fishing equipment in the water as long as you are less than 10 m from the shore on the oposit side of Tana river. This is regarded as transport, and not actually fishing.

Procedure for buying your license
- Go to http://fiskeravgift.miljodirektoratet.no/ to buy the Norwegian state fishing fee.
- Go to: https://tana.lakseelv.no/
- If you bought a license at Norwegian side of river Tana from Tana River Fish Management (Norwegian side) last year, you already have a FishermanID. Log in with your ID, or your phone number.
- If you did not buy a fishing license at the Norwegian side last year you have to create a new profile.
- At your profile, you may buy licenses both for yourself and your fishing mate. Each angler/fisherman must have his own profile, and you will be able to find there name by searching on their telephone number after you have selected a license.
- Anglers that did not report all their licenses have to pay an extra fee of 300 NOK in addition to the price of the license. You may pay this at the same time as you buy a new license online.
- Your license is not valid before you stop by one of the local businesses that are selling fishing licenses in the Tana valley. They will check if the fishing equipment is dry or disinfected, and then activate the license. Remember to bring a receipt for the State fishing fee when you are going to the license salesmen.
- We will repay anglers that regret buying the license, but only when they contact us before the first 14 days has past. You may contact us e.g. at the e-mail post@tanafisk.no
It is only the fishing days for the border area that are made available so far.
Catch Reporting
All catch of Salmon, Sea trout, Arctic Charr, Pink Salmon (humpback salmon), Reinbow trout (Steelhead, farmed) and Salmon kelt must be reported. This also apply for the fish you release. It is me.g. mandatory to release all salmon kelt. This is salmon that spawned last autumn and have spent the winter in the river.
We have also made it possible to report catch of freshwater fish species like pike, grayling, white fish and pearch, and hope most anglers choose to do so.
You may report your licenses at you profile at Fortuna software. You may also deliver a report to the local businesses that are selling fishing licenses. Updated list of these locations will be presented later on.
Remember that you must delivere a report even if you did not catch any fish, or were not fishing at all. Anglers that do not report all their licenses will have to pay an extra fee of 300 NOK when buying a license next year.
